The Design Cycle is a 4-part, 16-step, structured process that is taught to and used by IB students. They analyze the need for a solution and conduct an inquiry into the nature of the problem. This tool is used to help create and evaluate solutions in response to challenges and problem solving. The Design Cycle is used by by engineers, designers, developers, scientists, systems analysts, and project managers.
Students should be able to:
1=explain and justify the need for a solution to a problem.
2=construct a research plan, which states and prioritizes the primary and secondary research needed to develop a solution to the problem.
3=analyse a group of similar products that inspire a solution to the problem.
4=develop a design brief, which presents the analysis of relevant research.
